Bryson Tiller — “Anniversary Deluxe” Review

Bryson Tiller is back again with some more music for us and usually, I’d be happy about that. But recently, since his release of “Anniversary”, the music just hasn’t grown on me at all. We all regard “Trapsoul” as his best work to date and no matter what he drops, the saying is always the same, “This is good, but it’s not Trapsoul”. I’ve been apart of that myself but over the years, I’ve tried to let the past go and understand that artists will grow and move on from their “best work” and keep making music. It’s really not fair to judge them based on their previous stuff because it just negates everything they put into making the new stuff and that’s why we saw Bryson take so much time away from the music after his release of “True To Myself”.

Now, with the new release and some time passing, we get new Bryson Tiller music but it’s music that I feel like I’ve heard from him a million times before already. The instrumentals on the deluxe are amazing as always but then there’s Bryson. There are times where the songs felt like they were going on for too long or felt like there was too much going on in the song for me to really enjoy it. Big Sean is a feature on this deluxe and not surprisingly, he would’ve been better off not being on it. His feature to me was boring and brought the energy of the track down, but that’s a normal thing with Sean and his features. You’re either going to get something really good or just not worth the time. As we move forward into the deluxe, I did find myself repeating “Like Clockwork” many times because I felt that Bryson was a lot more confident on that song, he wasn’t afraid to let it be known that he’s here and the best is yet to come. I feel like more tracks like those are needed because when we get songs that are just drowned in auto tune and supposed to be sentimental, they tend to be less memorable. I think that is the major problem with Tiller’s music for me, a lot of his stuff nowadays is just not that memorable. I don’t think the music bad or trash or any other negative word you can think of but I do feel like if you’re going to take so much time with the music, I feel like one of the best things you can do is leave the fans wanting more of it.

All in all, if you enjoyed ‘Anniversary’ and the deluxe then more power to you but for me, I’m still waiting on Bryson Tiller to drop some music that is something memorable and lets the fans know that he is way bigger and better than ‘Trapsoul’.
